Ramjanmabhumi-Babri Masjid: A Symbolic Conflict

There was a time when I stood stout for rebuilding of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya but didn’t support the incidence of destruction of the then Controversial Structure, on 6th December, 1992 there.

That time I didn’t support the demolition of the controversial structure because I thought that as long as the structure was intact, people referred to it as the 'Controversial Structure' or 'Ramjanmabhumi-Babri Masjid'. However, as soon as it was attacked by a loud outburst of emotional outrage of the 'Karsevaks', it got registered as 'Babri Masjid broken' in public mind.

The 'Controversial Structure' contained definite Non-Islamic peculiarities of ancient Indian architecture. It had ashta-mangala-symbol, "makarpranal" & Purna Kalas at the base which typical of Hindu Architecture. Archaeological Society of India too, was all set & ready to submit their report & evidence on it to the Court where it was on the verge of getting a favourable Verdict as the original said Temple & that the Masjid was built on the base of an ancient temple. The originality of the Temple was about to be conclusively evident at the Court!

However, the Karsevaks couldn't control their emotions. They couldn't remain strategic & diplomatic for some more time but surrendered to their own overwhelming emotions & damaged the Controversial Structure without contemplating the consequences.
As they did it, the Controversial Structure immediately got registered as 'Babri Masjid broken' in public mind, since then.

It was not politically a wise act by the 'Karsevaks', but an emotional outrage indeed. That again proves that destruction of the Controversial Structure was no political move from BJP but an emotional one. Therefore, those who say that BJP plays politics upon the Ram Mandir issue, are incorrect. A move that caused immediate image loss of BJP to the so called elites of the country, could never justifiably be termed as a 'political move'. However, even if it was a political move, it certainly was not at least a vote-centric politics. If someone still says that it was a vote-centric political move by BJP, he/she immediately would end up admitting that Ram Temple is a country-wide political sensation. Then why did it remain ignored by Congress so long?

However, gradually I realized that demolition of Babri Masjid was perhaps a legitimate outburst of impatience. There are so many Muslims of the country who've stated unambiguously that many such Mosques had been built in India during the Islamic reign by destroying pre-existing temples. Babri too was one such. Archaeologically it has been evidenced for sure.

It's basically perhaps the doctrine of Islam that preaches & upholds such destructive acts. Islam perhaps is a very insecure philosophy to guide its followers & is not perhaps confident to exist in presence of other philosophies. Therefore, they perhaps need to demolish all other signs & symbols of different philosophies & streams of thoughts.

Bharatbarsha, on the other hand, had always upheld continuous evolution to the next level of realization by the inclusion of all schools of thought. Here lies the main conflict between Islam & Hindutva i.e. Bhartiyata.

The Hindus didn't break down all the Mosques that were built by destroying temples. Why? Is it because they don't know how to break Mosques? No. But it's in lieu of that inherent Bharatiyata that taught us, 'not destruction, but restoration & inclusion paves the path of civilization ahead'.

Then why did they break Babri? Because, to some of the people, our patience & inclusive attitude appeared to be weakness & they continued to attempt to capitalize that imaginary weakness of Hindus. They thought Hindus to be cowards & afraid of loosing a conflict. Moreover, Lord Ram is not only God to us but the representative of Indian Manhood. How should an Indian man be? Like the maryada purushottam Shri Ram. Lord Ram taught us how a common man may achieve divinity & immortality by living an exemplary life & through his actions where he includes all & tries to do justice to the maximum possible number of people & also does some human mistakes in the discourse. So, the Ayodhya temple is so important to us. It is the birthplace of Lord Ram where he exists himself. That is the faith. And faith can never be right or wrong. Lord Ram is the identity of Indian man. And hence Babri was demolished to exhibit to some people of the country that we too know how to be destructive & snatch our legitimate ground after waiting patiently for 364 years since 1528 when Mir Baqi, Babur's Commander built the Mosque at the janmasthan where Lord Ram exists himself. It was also needed to prove that we don't practice destruction in general not because we don't know how to be destructive, but because we're groomed to be restorative. It would be pertinent to mention here that whether the mosque was made by Babur's Commander Mir Baqi in 1528 or by Aurangzeb much later, is a controversial matter.

However, Hinduism also taught us how to be destructive in spite of upholding the spirit of construction in the way Lord Ram did. Hinduism also taught us how to be completely destructive in the way Vasudev Krishna did on Kurukshetra. Hinduism even taught us how to destroy a particular race of people in the way Lord Parashuram destroyed all the Kshatriyas. Moreover, please kindly note that the last AVATAR of LORD VISHNU is believed would appear as KALKI who'd destroy MLECHCHAs i.e. all the evils & malicious people.

This means, if needed, Hindus know how to grab the ground by sheer might. But we want to do it in an inclusive way. We prefer to give scope to all who're conflicting to stand up for TRUTH & JUSTICE, for Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. This is our patience & faith in human dignity & goodness. Remember Lord Ram offered every opportunity to Ravana to surrender for truth & justice?

Hence, I call this Ramjanmabhumi-Babri Masjid Conflict a symbolic conflict. This is the eternal philosophical conflict between Islam & Hindutva. Islam tries to destroy everything different & enforce its doctrine upon all whereas Hindutva preaches inclusion of all schools of thought into its own cult. History shows that Hindutva assimilates others into its own self. However, if Islam has to keep existing, it would definitely realize one day in short future that aggression & destruction would not take them ahead much further & that they'd have to choose the path of co-existence.

Hence, I believe, building of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya would be a great victory for neither the Hindus nor the Muslims but of truth, justice & Bhartiyata. However, rebuilding the Temple is just a matter of time now.
